About Us

Nato started cooking before he started mining.

Trained as a chef, he spent years in professional kitchens learning how heat actually works — how to read a fire, how to build flavour from the ground up, how the difference between a good cook and a great one is usually patience and temperature. Then he went into the mines. Long rosters, big country, and a lot of time thinking about food.

What never changed was the cooking. Not the weeknight stuff — the serious weekend cooking. Picanha over live fire, ribs that go on at dawn, huli huli chicken that needs a full afternoon, house-made jerky, pizza from a wood-fired oven, chilli that takes two days. The kind of cooking that requires a proper fire and a commitment to the process.

Outback Outfitters WA started because Nato couldn't find what he was looking for in one place. Premium handcrafted fire pits made properly in Australia. Tools built for people who actually use them. Gear that earns its place around a fire.

So he built it.

What we sell and why

The fire pits come from a craftsman in New South Wales who builds them to order from heavy Australian steel. These aren't catalogue pieces — each one is made when you order it, by someone who has been doing this for years. Cauldrons, signature designs, stainless steel, BBQ fire pits, smokeless pits. Pieces built to sit in an Australian backyard for decades and look better for it.

The tools and cooking gear are chosen the same way — not because they're popular, but because they work. A pigtail flipper that handles a brisket properly. A thermometer that tells you the truth. A pizza oven that actually gets hot enough. Everything in this store is here because it belongs next to a fire. If it doesn't belong there, it doesn't belong here.

Based in Perth, Western Australia

We're a small operation. When you order a fire pit, you're dealing with Nato — not a call centre, not a logistics team. He'll be in touch within 24 hours to talk through freight, lead times, and anything else you need to know. That's how it works when you buy from a person rather than a platform.

If you want to talk fire pits, live-fire cooking, or you just want to know which cauldron suits your backyard — get in touch. That conversation is free and it's usually pretty good.
